Hello, my name is Chandler Kidd and I am an independent reporter living in Brooklyn, New York. Currently, I am a fact-checker and reporter for NewsGuard. NewsGuard is an internet tool to help readers understand news and misinformation on the internet.
In May of 2018, I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in journalism specifically focusing on online media. After completing undergrad, I moved to New York City to pursue my graduate degree. I came to Columbia Journalism School to become a better writer and to find my voice. My reporting focuses on music, LGBTQ issues, and subcultures in New York City. While at Columbia Journalism School, I have written a 5,000+ piece covering a sex and cannabis club located in the West Village titled NSFW (New Society For Wellness). My thesis will be focusing on Flower Essence therapy and the holistic wellness movement across America.
While at the University of Oklahoma I got my feet wet in arts and entertainment reporting at my school newspaper The OU Daily. I began covering local bands, student artists, the Norman Music Festival and much more during my time at The Daily. I also got my first taste of photography which allowed me to cover events such as student ran protests, the Woman’s March and other daily assignments. During my time at The Daily I found out my true passion for arts and culture reporting and photography.
During my sophomore year at the University of Oklahoma, I took a class in magazine production. Leading me to create my own music and culture magazine titled Volume 11.
Besides journalism I am interested in: yoga, Burning Man and house music. I also was born and raised in Oklahoma and also a member of the Cherokee Nation. Want to know more check out the rest of my site.
